In normal times, the U.S. Department of Labor would enforce compliance with regulations involving forced labor and wage and hours laws. Enforcement efforts would be aimed at the employer, not the employees. Agents would not be armed and masked. ICE needs to be brought under control.

If this is a legitimate police action--Why the masks on the ICE agents? That makes it seem like they are trying to hide their own identities because--I don't know what--but something is wrong here.

Because they fear prosecution or intimidation or payback if their identity becomes known? Fear is the reason behind it all.

I got this comment from a Republican friend invan email, and I'm reposting it here because it represents the other side of the "Rohrshach test" I mentioned at the top of the post:

TEXT OF PETER'S COMMENT:

Do Heavily armed and well protected Federal Agents arresting non-violent workers bothers me? Do we not want the agents to be safe from harm? No more bother than the display the Biden administration unleashed on a non-violent, elderly Roger Stone at 6:00am. Or that other fellow whose house was raided at Mar-a-lago while agents went thru his wife’s panty drawer.

It seems a rather dim view of immigration when well to do San Diego residents protest ICE to protect the cost of their hamburger lunch or keep the cost of care down for their parents.

My sister-in-law is from Colombia. It took her 8 years to become a citizen after her marriage to my brother. Now my own kids have to wait 20 years to have their sister come to America from the Philippines.

Let’s clear those in the legal immigration Que go first, then if the Democrats can get re-elected they can again sow their seeds of chaos with open borders.

I think your Republican is just asswipe. There is no comparison between Trump’s and Biden’s administration when it comes to civil rights and liberties. Trump refused to give up boxes of top secret information for most likely future blackmailing. I don’t remember the FBI having full face masks on at the time. AND, this was actually a very serious issue of national security. And as president has continued to destroy our liberties and freedoms, constitution right down to habeas corpus.

Plus I am sick of “the open borders” disinformation. I’m sure he also believes the rhetoric that they are all murders, rapist, drug dealers, human traffickers. Lies in an effort to rile up the stupidest, most uninformed, ignorant, racists Americans to believe, so this corrupt administration can usher in effortlessly fascism. It’s not about illegal dangerous immigrants anymore than it was about the Jews being evil in nazi Germany. It is about scapegoating. And unfortunately your republican friend is all on board with fascism even if he is not aware.

Good for them for standing up. Imagine if no one opposed ICE and just let them do what they want. They need to know many people do not agree with their behavior.

I believe those are not real ICE agents, they are not in proper uniforms and not carrying any ID, but I am sure they are getting their orders from the office of the president. Illegal, that is what it means.

I’d love to think that “ up close and personal” witnessing of this brutality brings out the human (we are all really the same) in people.

I loved that these people called these idiots "fucking Nazis" to their faces. They need to know the public sees the fascism behind the lies. We see and we are not silent. We stand up against their terrorism and ridiculous military facade to bring restaurant workers out of a kitchen! Shame is not strong enough!

Well, it's happening, what I predicted months ago as Trump coasted to a return to the White House. Thanks to a wrinkle in the space-time continuum, we have a photo from our time transmitted back three decades. It's the Pulitzer Prize-winning photo of the Feds' capture of that notorious, dangerous terrorist, six year old Elian Gonzalez. Here's a link to it, showing the heroic agent in full tactical gear training his automatic weapon on that criminal.
