Stop Lying: FEMA is Not Out of Money, and $750 is NOT the Only Aid Being Provided

FEMA is not out of money, and the claim that $750 is the only aid being provided to Hurricane Helene victims is completely false. First, FEMA has stated repeatedly that it has adequate funds to address all needs for Helene recovery. Period. Full stop. The claim that FEMA is out of money is just a blatant lie being spread maliciously. Similarly, the claim that $750 is the only aid being offered is another malicious lie. In reality, the $750 is a form of Serious Needs Assistance, designed to help people cover emergency essentials like food, water, and medication in the immediate aftermath of the disaster. This is just one part of FEMA’s broader range of support programs. Survivors can also apply for additional aid, including Home Repair/Replacement Assistance, Rental Assistance, Medical and Dental Assistance, and other forms of help for more long-term recovery. Thare are more than 1000 FEMA personnel on the ground helping people apply for these other programs. As of early October 2024, FEMA had already disbursed millions of dollars in aid, including $23 million in Florida and $17 million in North Carolina.

Here’s what FEMA has actually done:

• Shipped over 8.5 million meals and 7 million liters of water.

• Provided 150 generators, 220,000 tarps, and 50 Starlink systems for emergency communication.

• Deployed 1,250 Urban Search and Rescue personnel, alongside 6,000 National Guard members supporting response efforts.

• Sent 200 Federal ambulances and Disaster Medical Assistance Teams to aid in medical emergencies.

Additionally, the Department of Defense has been mobilized to provide resources like helicopters, high-wheeled vehicles, and additional search-and-rescue capabilities. This is the level of response the Biden-Harris administration has mobilized to ensure communities are supported with robust, life-saving assistance. Anyone claiming FEMA has “run out” of funds or that victims receive only a single $750 payment is spreading misinformation.

We’re witnessing some of the most thorough federal support efforts to date, so let’s stop these deceptive narratives in their tracks. It’s about time we held these liars accountable.
